We spent our second day in the OBX exploring the Northern Duck and Corolla area. We visited the Corolla Lighthouse, a beautiful red brick building, and looked out over the pristine waters of Currituck Sound. This peaceful body of water is mostly freshwater due to the closing of many inlets in the mid 20th century. Due to the shifting of the OBX barrier island chain, this could change in a matter of years due to major storms, changing the balance of this estuarine system.
Next we headed up north to the Currituck Banks Reserve for a cleanup! While wondering through the maritime forest trails to the estuarine water, we didn't see much trash! It was nice to be in a place free from human waste. It's really uplifting to visit places
After grabbing a quick dinner we headed down to Kelly's Resturant and Tavern for.... LINE DANCING LESSONS! Although we were the only people under the age of 45, it was a BLAST. We learned a ton of new dances, taught everyone the cha cha slide, and really bonded as a group! After line dancing we sung our hearts out on stage for some Spice Girls karaoke!
