No Away in Throw Away

March 11, 2016

Today was one of the most successful days yet! We started the morning with breakfast at Biscuits and Porn in Nags Head (pretty good food! - and family friendly). From there, wearing our Hope Spot: Hatteras t-shirts, we headed to Jeanette's Pier to tell the folks there about our mission and to cleanup!

After talking with employees and the executive director of the NC Aquarium at Jeanette's Pier about Hope Spot: Hatteras, we were very excited to recieve positive feedback on our idea! It seems most of the locals here care deeply about their ocean home and like the idea of having the world learn about what makes this area so special. We passed along our website info and petition and headed out to cleanup! (Check out our last blog post for pictures and details on our Jeanette's Pier cleanup experience).

After a quick lunch, we drove down to Pea Island Wildlife Refuge to cleanup there as well. We collected so much trash that we filled up our bags and cars and had to stop - in just 2 hours. We found a ton of unique items including a pair of goggles. tires and $20 (it pays to cleanup!).

We cleaned up along the road right behind the first dunes and hope that as people were passing us, they realize when it comes to trash there is no away in throw away!

We ended the day visiting Bodie Lighthouse, a sunset drive around the mid-OBX islands, and the movie Mission Blue!
